We are delighted to announce that Rotarian Arun Patel has been honoured with a prestigious British Citizen Award, which recognises his remarkable charity work.

The award was presented to Arun in acknowledgment of his involvement with Polio Children, a charity that is working to enhance the welfare of children with polio and adults with post-polio syndrome. He was recognised in the Healthcare category, which commended him for his exceptional contribution to the community, and praised him as an inspiration to other British citizens.

All award winners were invited to accept their medal and certificate at a prestigious ceremony held at the Palace of Westminster in the House of Lords, which was hosted by Baroness Cox of Queensbury.

During his acceptance speech Arun, a member of the Rotary Club of Dagenham, recognised the “invaluable contribution” of the trustees of Polio Children. He added: “I’d like to dedicate this award to them and to the hundreds of donors and well-wishers as, without their unselfish and relentless support, Polio Children could not have accomplished what it has.”

When Arun was aged one, he was diagnosed with Polio and he has gone on to positively impact the lives of over 1,000 children living with the condition. His charity Polio Children has raised ÂŁ1.2 million to fund projects for poor children with Polio in India, and he also pledged his own money to build a hostel for girls in the country to have a safe living environment.

The British Citizen Awards are a new recognition program for any individual who has made a meaningful impact on those around them. Nominees come from all corners of the UK, all cultural backgrounds, and from all sectors of the community. Awards are given for service to communities, industry, arts, education, healthcare, business, volunteering and charitable giving, and international achievement.
