This week, the charity Step Up To Serve is marking the second anniversary of the #iwill initiative, of which Rotary is a keen supporter.

The initiative is designed to harness the enthusiasm and skills of young people aged 10-20 and encourage them to get involved with social action in their communities.

As part of the initiative’s foundation, Rotary pledged to form 300 new RotaKids clubs for children aged 8-12, along with 125 Interact clubs for 12-18 year olds by the year 2020.

Following that promise, there have been 83 RotaKids and 63 Interact clubs chartered in schools across Great Britain and Ireland, all of which provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and make friends, while contributing to various local and international projects.

A recent Youth Social Action survey, conducted as part of the #iwill campaign, found that 85% of young people between the ages of 10-20 have either committed to meaningful social action in the last 12 months or are interested in doing so in the near future.

This figure is very encouraging, as Step Up To Serve aims to increase the number of young people participating in social action by 50% by the year 2020, which would see an additional 1.5 million people donating their time and talents to bring about positive social change.

With the help of Rotary clubs across Great Britain and Ireland, our programmes for young people can make this goal become a reality. For more information about Step Up To Serve, please see the video below.
