‘Supporting the environment’ to become new Area of Focus for Rotary

Rotary’s six Areas of Focus will soon become seven, with the addition of ‘Supporting the Environment’

Unanimous approval has been given to adding a new Area of Focus – Supporting the Environment.

More than $18 million in grant funding from the The Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s own charity, has been given to environmental-related projects over the past five years.

Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment will give Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change in the world and increase our impact.

Supporting the environment will become Rotary seventh Area of Focus, joining:

  • Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Maternal and child health
  • Basic education and literacy
  • Community economic development

These causes encompass some of the world’s most critical humanitarian needs and provide an opportunity for Rotary members to transform the world through volunteering and service projects.

Grant applications for projects will be accepted from 1st July 2021 and more information will be announced soon.

Approval was given by The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors. Information via Rotary International.
