This year’s youngest recipient of the Young Citizen Awards took to the stage at Rotary International’s convention in Brazil, after being personally invited to attend by RI President Gary Huang.

Bella Field, 10, first met Gary at Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland’s conference when she received her award for the remarkable work she has carried out to help raise money for Haven House Children’s Hospice. Bella began fundraising events at the age of six after her sister Molly tragically passed away aged eight from a brain tumour, since then she has helped to raise more than £90,000 for the charity.

During her visit to São Paulo, Bella addressed the 14,000 attendees who had come from all over the world to represent their Rotary Club, and during her talk she remarked on how overwhelmed, excited, and a little nervous, she was to be sharing her story with them.

Bella gave a special thanks to her local Rotary Club in Redbridge for all their support and care, remarking that if it wasn’t for them it would not have been possible. As she ended her talk Gary joined her on stage to lead the standing ovation from the audience.

Eve Conway, of the Rotary Club of Redbridge, commented: “We’re extremely proud of Bella for taking the trip thousands of miles away from home to stand up and tell her courageous story. She’s a remarkable individual and we’re delighted that we have been able to support her through this journey.”
