Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Young Writer competition. Thousands of youngsters took part by writing a short prose entitled Light Up The Community, exploring a project happening in their local area.

There were three categories including junior, intermediate and senior and it was open to young people aged seven to seventeen. There were 56 submissions in the final, and entrants competed in local and district heats before reaching the final.

The winners of the three categories are:

Junior: Cerridwen Gray representing Hebden Bridge Rotary Club (read the winning entry here)

Intermediate: Megan Newton representing Stanley Rotary Club in Co Durham (read the winning entry here)

Senior: Luanne Thornton representing Elland Rotary Club, West Yorkshire (read the winning entry here)

Peter King, President of Rotary GBI, commented: “To be able to write passionately and from the heart is a real gift, and each winner was able to tell their story in a unique way. The quality of the entries were outstanding and I’d like to thank everyone who took part.”
