The Rotary Club of Belfast celebrated their centenary with a 21 Royal Gun Salute in November at the stunning Hillsborough Castle.

At 12 noon, Monday 14th, a 21 Gun Royal Salute celebrated the birthday of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, in conjunction with the Centenary of the Rotary Club of Belfast.

The special day began with guests being piped into the castle by an army Pipe Major. The organising Major welcomed everybody and wished all continuing success in the years ahead before moving onto the terrace steps for the salute, suitably equipped with ear plugs!

Guns safely discharged, there was then an opportunity to inspect the guns ourselves, mingle and pose for a members’ group photograph on the beautiful sunny November day.

Retiring inside to the Throne Room, club President Adrian thanked all involved and marked this special day by bestowing a Sapphire Paul Harris Award on PP Bryan Johnston for his exemplary service to the club over many years.

The Rotary Club of Belfast was proud to join in with this event, organised by Headquarters 38 (Irish) Brigade, one of many simultaneous salutes held across the country and in Gibraltar. The Inspecting Officer was Belfast Club’s Honorary Member Dame Mary Peters, DBE, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Belfast.

Among the many welcome guests were District Governor Barney Callaghan, seven past district governors, representatives from other Rotary clubs, officers and cadets from the Officers Training Corps, Belfast.
