The Rotary Club of Shipston on Stour held its Victorian Evening in the town for the sixteenth year running.

Rotarians in Victorian dress were out in force, collecting for good causes and the Rotary Club of Shipston on Stour President, John Round, kicked off the proceedings by introducing the Mayor of Shipston on Stour, Veronica Murphy. The town’s Christmas lights and the Shipston on Stour Rotary Club Tree of Life were then switched on followed by singing and playing of carols by the town’s school choir and brass band.

The Tree of Life is the official Shipston Christmas tree and people can dedicate a light on the tree to a loved one who has passed away in return for a donation to the Rotary club. The names of all those to whom a light is dedicated are recorded in the Rotary Club of Shipston on Stour’s Tree of Life book, which is kept in the local church for families to see.

President John Round said: “The Victorian Evening is a very popular event within the local community and this year was as successful as ever. Around 2,000 people turned out to see the switch on, listen to the music and of course see the arrival of Father Christmas. Many thousands of pounds were raised for a variety of good causes including the Children’s Air Ambulance.
