Purple4Polio Rotary Grand Tour

Rotary’s new drive to end polio is ready to go

The Purple4Polio Rotary Grand Tour is hitting the highways in May and has over fifty registered teams and their fabulous cars taking part. Vehicles of all shapes and sizes will be touring the country, raising money for End Polio Now as well as sharing the story of Rotary along the way.

This adventure around Britain is taking place from the 21st until the 24th May 2018 and features some very quirky vehicles including a former builder’s truck which has had a major facelift.

The teams have a fun challenge ahead as they organise their own route, transport and accommodation. To help the intrepid travellers on their way, Rotary across the country is setting up a few check and photo points at places of interest where teams can have a break, get the logbook stamped or take a selfie near a landmark. Teams can drive as near or as far as they choose and there is no requirement to drive for all four days. It is hoped that all the teams will meet up at the finish line for the end-of-tour party at Halifax Minster on the 24th May (optional).

The map below shows the check and photo points, including the Brands Hatch Circuit, Beamish Museum and Haynes International Motor Museum. Click on a location to find out more.

The cars will be hard to miss as they will have large vinyl car stickers which will show the world that they are part of the Purple4Polio Rotary Grand Tour and help you spot other teams.

Teams – you may want to wear purple End Polio Now clothing which is available from the End Polio Now Guernsey Shop. You can download the Rotary Grand Tour Logo Set for t-shirt and merchandise printing.

Classic rally style plates for fixing to your car are available from the Rotary Retro Automobile Fellowship via 01483 766182. The cost for each one is £5 including postage, packaging and VAT. You will need to purchase two cable ties for each plate (you may wish to have one at the front and back of the car). They do make excellent souvenirs of the event. Orders can be received up until May 7th although requests placed earlier would help!

Please note:

This is not a competition and entrants will not be timed. The only race involved is the one to eradicate polio quickly. Your help is crucial as funds raised are going to End Polio Now via The Rotary Foundation UK.
