The Rotary in Great Britain & Ireland Conference and Showcase 2019 took place from 10th – 12th May in Nottingham.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a weekend of inspiration. Below are a selection of news stories so you can relive the best moments of the Conference and Showcase.
This year’s Showcase included the live national finals of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition.
Schools and pupils from across the country gathered on the final day of the Rotary Conference and Showcase in Nottingham for what, for all of the day’s participants, was the culmination of months of local and regional heats, intense research and dedicated rehearsal.
Also at this year’s Showcase for the first time was the annual Champions Awards, recognising the outstanding volunteering efforts of 14 unsung heroes.
From providing support to those suffering with mental health issues, to an inspirational woman who has been at the heart of a school project in Uganda, meet this year’s winners.
Nottingham’s Albert Hall hosted an Anti-Slavery Symposium featuring a distinguished list of experts.
There were calls for Rotary to take a lead on fighting a phenomenon which affects at least 40 million people globally.
One of the highlights of the Rotary calendar is always the Young Citizen Awards, where we meet and celebrate some outstanding young people who do remarkable things to help others.
From the youngster who’s helping others while battling childhood cancer, to the 11-year-old who bakes and delivers special cakes for free to those going through a tough time, to the dynamic 14-year-old wheelchair basketball player who’s won a gold medal, to the “Plastics Warrior” who’s campaigning to clean up beaches worldwide, to the teenage Peace Advocates changing their school, this year’s Young Citizens are truly amazing.
