A group of pupils at Oldmachar Academy, Bridge of Don received a boost to their plans for a journey to Malaysia by the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Balgownie when they were presented with a cheque for £1,423 by club president Bob Nicol. The funds were raised from a pre-Christmas bag packing session at their local ASDA.
The Oldmachar pupils are raising funds for a humanitarian project in Malaysia, to be arranged by international charity World Challenge. Typical projects include working with the blind, in a homeless shelter, a school and making environmental improvements.
“Helping the community is an important part of Rotary work” said Balgownie club member Ron Falconer “and with this project we are helping young members of our community to provide assistance in another area far away, which is a double benefit. We appreciate the assistance of ASDA in permitting this fundraiser, and would like to thank all the local residents who donated to it.”
