Disabled athletes from all over England are converging on Coventry this weekend for the 32nd English Disabled Sports Team Championships on November 9-10 at the Xcel Leisure Centre.

This year, over 200 athletes are taking part in nine teams of up to 25 competitors, all supported by their local Rotary clubs. Sports include new age kurling, table tennis, rifle shooting, boccia team, boccia pairs, darts, weight lifting, pitstop, swimming, triathlon and the wheelchair slalom.

Ron Gibbs of the Rotary Club of Coventry Jubilee, who is chair of the organising committee, said: “The best way to describe these championships is fiercely competitive with genuine sportsmanship in a friendly sporting atmosphere. Everyone works hard and has a great time. We are all inspired by last year’s successful Paralympics and are expecting lots of supporters. The atmosphere is brilliant and I urge members of the public to come along to experience a memorable sporting occasion."

The English Disabled Sports Team Championships are organised by five Rotary clubs in Coventry and are sponsored and supported by other Rotary clubs across England.
