Gabrielle Back, President of the Rotary Club of Coventry Breakfast, has been presented with an International Green Hero Award by The Green Organisation, which recognises and promotes environmental best practice around the world. The trophy was awarded in recognition of Gabrielle’s community environmental work and for helping others to help the environment.
Gabrielle is chair of the RIBI Environmental Sustainability Group, a sub group of the RIBI Community Resource Committee. Last year she was awarded a Green Apple Award by the Green Organisation for a national project with schools and community groups which focused on using recyclable materials to produce practical and beautiful objects. The project resulted in the publication of a paper called Recreate which was published in The Green Book, the world’s leading international work of reference on environmental best practice which is distributed to environmentalists all over the world. The Green Apple Award led to Gabrielle being nominated for the International Green Hero Award
The Green Organisation Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition of environmental endeavour among individuals, companies, councils, communities and countries. Judges are drawn from the Environment Agency, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Chartered Institution of Waste Management and other independent bodies.
