Rotary clubs across Great Britain and Ireland are coming to the end of the first month of the Rotary year. New presidents are preparing for the challenges which lie ahead, and bring clubs even closer to the communities they work with.
Beverly Lindsay, President of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, is already working wonders by bringing her club in contact not only with the local community but also with Jamaica. She is the chair of the Association of Jamaican Nationals UK and welcomed the Jamaican Olympic team to the city. This was a momentous occasion as Jamaica celebrates 50 years of independence this year.
The community has always played an important role in Beverly’s life, having started her professional career as a qualified nurse and later becoming a qualified midwife before leaving the nursing profession to take up employment as a Senior Community Worker with the Birmingham based Harambee Advice and Community Centre.
A highly accomplished businesswoman, her travel agency, Diamond Travel, launched 25 years ago, Beverly has been a member of Rotary since 1997 and is determined to make the coming year once of the most vibrant: "It is a great honour to be asked to lead the club and I have been building up to this for the past couple of years. The club does a lot in the community and I am keen for the business community to engage with the club."
