Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Biggleswade Ivel visited Kenya to check how charity projects which they have set up in the country are progressing. The visit was hosted by the Rotary Club of Karen in Nairobi with whom the Biggleswade Ivel Rotarians have close links.
The group were keen to see what progress has been made in the supply and distribution of insecticide treated nets which help to fight malaria. They also visited the Great Rift Valley region where the club helped provide a source of safe, clean water and training in healthcare to members of the Maasai at three camps in the Kajiado District.
Rotarian Colin McCartney said: “The visit was an excellent opportunity to spend some time in areas of Kenya where we have been active in recent years. Helping schools and child care centres in Kenya has been a priority for the club and we are pleased to see how much progress has been made.
“One of the schools had bought in new computers but unfortunately didn’t have any printers. So we were pleased to be able to take over a new printer for them so they can put the computers to best use.”
The Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Biggleswade Ivel were joined by Rotarian Phil Douglas from the Rotary Club of Wellingborough.
