In response to the humanitarian crisis in the Philippines, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) is calling for donations to the four Rotary supported survival box projects, Shelterbox, Aquabox, Disaster Aid UK and Ireland and Water Survival Box, in order that they can provide immediate aid to the area.
Shelterbox already has teams in the disaster zone distributing boxes containing shelter and other vital aid items including water filtration equipment, blankets and groundsheets. In addition, RIBI is calling for donations to the disaster fund set up by the RIBI Donations Trust. The trust was set up in 2007 to enable Rotary clubs to pool funds to support the reconstruction of communities following major disasters, such as rebuilding schools and hospitals. Its trustees will decide how best to spend the money to help the Philippines get back on its feet.
RIBI President, Nan McCreadie said: “The Rotary supported box charities will provide people with a supply of clean water and other essential items to help them survive the immediate aftermath of the disaster. However, the area will require a significant amount of rebuilding in the long term and it is vital that people are aware that help continues to be needed long after the story has disappeared from our TV screens.”
To make a donation to help the people of the Philippines, please send cheques made payable to RIBI Donations Trust to RIBI, Kinwarton Road, Alcester, Warwickshire B49 6PB.
