Rotary clubs across the country have shown support for Remembrance Sunday.
In Nottingham, Rotary members were personally asked by the Lord Mayor to help out for a second year, following the tremendous success of last year’s support in the area. Past District Governor Rotarian Val Leivers, who organises the collections, says the clubs are very supportive of this and many other causes: "There are hundreds of Rotarians, families and friends all working hard for this worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who has donated their time and for giving so generously. I have seen people very kindly putting ten and twenty pounds notes into the collection cans. All I can say is this will make a tremendous difference to those who are relying on the Royal British Legion."
In Colchester, as in many communities, clubs laid wreaths at war memorials and collected donations on behalf of the Royal British Legion.
In London, inspirational fundraiser and RIBI Young Citizen Award 2010, Lydia Cross, joined Rotary in London and WheelPower for the Lord Mayor’s Show. The determined 11 year old has raised thousands of pounds for injured servicemen and women by completing sponsored runs and other demanding events.
Rotarian Eve Conway, the first woman District Governor of Rotary in London in its 101-year history, led the parade with Lydia and former Paralympian Martin McElhatton, the CEO of WheelPower. They were joined by fellow Rotary District Governors, Rotarians, Rotary Ambassadorial and Global Scholars and WheelPower representatives.
