Praise has been passed on to volunteers throughout the Rotary world by Mary McAleese, President of Ireland.

In an Irish Independent newspaper article, Mrs McAleese, who attended the Rotary Ireland Centenary Conference, paid tribute to the thousands of people who do extraordinary things, not for personal rewards but to: "infuse goodness into community life."

Mrs McAleese also recognised the number of Rotary members opened up opportunities which would otherwise be impossible. She added: "It has been said that volunteers don’t get paid, not because they are worthless — but because they are priceless."

2010 marks 100 years since the Rotary Club of Dublin was created, the first club outside North America. To celebrate this significant milestone, the annual Conference for Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is being held in Dublin where President Mary McAleese will be a guest speaker.
