Prince Charles made an official visit to the Serum Institute of India in Pune where he congratulated Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign for its tremendous efforts in eradicating polio in India and worldwide.
During the visit, the prince attended the Rotary International stand showcasing Rotary’s role in polio eradication and met Rotary District Governor Dr Deepak Shikarpur. After asking questions about polio, Prince Charles accepted an End Polio Now scarf and posed for press photographers. At a function later, he urged the media to highlight Rotary’s role in polio eradication worldwide, in order to make a polio free world a reality for future generations.
The Serum Institute of India has established itself as the world’s largest producer of vaccines. It is estimated that two out of every three children immunised in the world are vaccinated by a vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute, which exports to 130 countries. It also manufactures an injectable polio vaccine which will help India in its quest to completely eradicate polio.
