Teenager Alice Pyne, Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) Young Citizen Award winner 2012, has sadly lost her fight against cancer.
The warm-hearted 17 year old youngster from Cumbria was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when she was just 13 years old. Despite this, Alice was determined not to let the illness stop her and succeeded in setting up her own charity, Alice’s Escapes, which provides breaks for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Not only was Alice recognised for her tireless efforts to help other youngsters by receiving an RIBI Young Citizen Award, she was also awarded the British Empire Medal for her charity work, as was her sister Milly, and also received a Diana Award.
As well as raising hundreds of thousands of pounds, Alice also appealed for more people to join the bone marrow register, an appeal which was personally praised by the Prime Minister David Cameron.
Alice passed away on Saturday 12th January surrounded by her family.
