Congratulations to the Rotaract Club of Westminster who have won their bid to host the second Rotaract Global Model United Nations (MUN) Conference in London during August 2014.& MUN conferences are opportunities for young people from all over the world to debate current political, social and economic issues using the same strict rules and procedures as those used the UN.

MUN compromises a Security Council, Human Rights Council, Economic and Social Council, Peacebuilding Commission and a Rapporteur office responsible for reporting conclusions back to NGOs for consideration.

Each participant expresses the views and interests of the country they represent. The experience allows them to accumulate knowledge of global issues, master the art of negotiation, learn public speaking and use the official UN language and procedural mechanisms.

Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) President Nan McCreadie said: “Rotary is proud to have been instrumental in the founding of the UN at a meeting in London in 1946. So we are delighted that Rotaract in Great Britain & Ireland has won the bid to host the MUN conference next year where they will continue the legacy of promoting goodwill laid down at that first historic meeting.”

Zsofi Kulscar, President of the Rotaract Club of Westminster and MUN organiser said: “The aim of the Rotaract MUN in London 2014 is for young people to explore different cultures, test their interpersonal and intercultural dialogue skills and ultimately to reach solutions to global problems which can be presented to the UN.”

The first Rotaract MUN Conference took place in 2013 and was hosted by Rotaract Team Baia Mare in Romania.
