David Windle of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield has raised £2,300 for the Chesterfield based charity Kids ‘N’ Cancer UK, by swimming a marathon of 26 miles and 385 yards.

The sponsored swim took place over a period of a week when David swam 3,516 lengths of the pool at the Ringwood Hall Hotel in a total time of 16 hours 56 minutes.

David said: “I am delighted that thanks to some wonderful support I have exceeded my initial target of £2,000 and have so far raised £2,300 for the charity.”

Although Kids ‘N’ Cancer UK is currently organising the very first Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon in 2014, David chose to make his fundraising contribution by swimming instead of running. “I am stronger at swimming than running and am really pleased to have completed the swim in a personal best time,” he said.

Kids ’N’ Cancer UK is a charity designed to help children receive life saving proton therapy treatment for cancers and tumours. Some children who are diagnosed with cancer do not qualify for funding by the NHS in certain situations, so the charity and its patrons assist families caught up in the sad position of not meeting the criteria.
