The run up to Remembrance Sunday reminds us of the continued support which is provided to our injured troops by the Rotary Club of Wylde Green. When injured troops return from war zones, it can be up to six weeks before their personal belongings arrive, so Troop Aid was founded in 2006 to supply basic essentials to injured service personnel.

The Wylde Green Rotarians have been packing Grab Bags for Troop Aid for the last five years. A Grab Bag typically contains washing and shaving kit, towel, face flannel, shower mules, socks, underwear, T shirt, shorts, paper and pen. There are also Grab Bags for injured female service personnel and many other items of clothing and footwear can also be provided on request. Feedback received from injured service personnel is extremely positive and get well cards from school children are particularly well received.

Grab Bags packed by Wylde Green Rotarians are sent to field hospitals in Afghanistan, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Ministry of Defence hospital units in Germany, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley and Headley Court.

Tony Ridge, of the Rotary Club of Wylde Green said: “‘Remembrance Sunday reminds us all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Troop Aid supports those service personnel who have been injured, by providing them with basic essentials. It is run by a small, very dedicated team of volunteers who are providing a much appreciated service. In Rotary, we’re for communities and we are pleased to continue to supply practical support to Troop Aid.”

Troop Aid is funded by donations and receives no government support.
