A Rotary Young Chef participant has been offered a scholarship as a Specialised Chef Apprentice, following her success in the competition.

Aimee O’Connell, from Boroughbridge High School in Yorkshire, was a two-time winner of Knaresborough Rotary Club’s Young Chef, and she also progressed to the latter stages of the competition, taking part in county and regional finals.

Aimee will attend the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts at Bournemouth and Poole College from September 2016 and was extremely grateful for the opportunity Young Chef has given her: “The competition has been instrumental in helping me to achieve my goal. The skills which I learnt and the support which I received have helped me to progress with my passion for cooking.

“I would like to thank everyone for their help and guidance during the two years I participated in the competition and I will always be grateful for the interest and encouragement that Rotary has shown me.”

Brian Souter, member of the Knaresborough Rotary Club, commented: “For a number of years we have tried to support and encourage young people through Rotary’s various youth programmes in addition to Kids Out and Young Carers’ holidays. It is a great joy to hear Aimee’s good news and we wish her every success for the future.”

Rotary’s youth competitions are designed to harness and celebrate the creative talent of young people, with thousands of youngsters taking part across Great Britain and Ireland every year. Find out more about our youth programmes here.
