Past Rotary International Director Mike Webb receives prestigious award

British Rotarian Mike Webb is one of just 50 Rotary members from around the world to have been recognised this year with a prestigious award for exemplary service to the Rotary Foundation.

Mike Webb, a past Rotary International Director between 2013-15 and current Trustee Chairman of the Rotary Foundation of the United Kingdom, has been awarded the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award.

The Award honours up to 50 Rotarians and Rotaractors each year who have demonstrated exemplary service to the Foundation, Rotary’s own and only charity.

Mike has been a member of Mendip Rotary Club since 1976. He has also spent four years as a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation between 2017-21.

Upon receiving the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award, Mike said he was “extremely honoured” the Foundation chose to recognise his service.

The chair of the Rotary Foundation, K.R. Ravindran said: “Whilst I as the chair may have been making speeches all over the world, it’s someone like Mike who makes it all happen behind the scenes.”

“I dare say the board may not have come out looking so good in a most challenging year if not for Mike Webb.”

Mike Webb was Mr Ravindran’s vice-chair of trustees of TRF.

With a membership spanning over four decades, the loyal Rotarian has held multiple positions, including as President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland in 2005/06.

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programmes.

Nominees for the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award are endorsed by Rotarians or Rotaractors outside their district, with district governors only being allowed one nomination from their district. Mike was given the award by the TRF Trustees.

His life’s work with the Rotary Foundation has included being a GroupStudy exchange leader in 1991 in New Zealand, Auditors Team Coordinator, Chair of TRF Cadre of Technical Advisers and much more. Â
