Central Sussex Rotary Anniversary restoration projects

Sussex Rotarians show their commitment to helping their local community and celebrate their one-year anniversary by completing two local restoration projects.

Central Sussex Rotary, located on the South Coast of England has recently completed two local community projects to mark it is one year anniversary.

One of the projects entailed tidying up the garden belonging to a local Voluntary Action Centre, and the other was to redecorate a community centre in Haywards Heath.

The Sussex Rotarians donned their gardening gear as they took to tidying up, replanting, and repainting the gardens of the Mid Sussex Voluntary Action’s Cherry Tree Centre (MVSA).

The group weeded the area and fixed up the planters before giving them a new lease of life.

Thanks to generous donations made by B&Q in Burgess Hill, all visitors that attend the centre can now enjoy a quiet and peaceful space.

It has completely changed the look of our outside areas and we are incredibly grateful to Rotary for helping us in this way.”

Laura Lloyd, the CEO of MSVA was delighted with the work conducted by the club and has already seen the difference the upgraded space has made to the visitors.

She said: “We are thrilled with the difference the Central Sussex Rotary has made to the overall look of our outdoor space.

“It has completely changed the look of our outside areas and we are incredibly grateful to Rotary for helping us in this way.

“The renovated space has served as a wellbeing boost and has improved the mental health of visitors.”

In neighbouring Haywards Heath, the Sussex Rotarians loaded their paintbrushes to freshen up the corridors of the Yews Community Centre.

Having seen a call for help on a local community board listing, the Rotary club responded by providing five Rotarians to help with the project.

The team repainted the counselling room, the communal walkways on the first floor and one of the toilet facilities in the two-phased project.

Chair of the Yews Trustee Board, Ian Sanderson, thanked the club for their consistent help at the centre, which has positively impacted attracting new people.

She said: “Following your efforts last year to redecorate the Graham Cloak Lounge and part of the upstairs corridor, we are once again grateful to your team for completing the repainting of the remainder of the upstairs corridor and one of our downstairs toilets.

“The fact that the upstairs now looks fresh and bright is already attracting new long-term users, which are the bedrock of our finances.”

In total, Central Sussex Rotary has donated 72 hours of its time to the two projects, which is just the beginning of its plans to help support the Sussex community.

Sussex Rotary President, Steve Smyth is pleased to have helped the two organisations and is looking forward to having more Rotarians join the club to continue supporting the local community.

The renovated space has served as a wellbeing boost and has improved the mental health of visitors.”

He said: “We were really pleased to be able to do some good for two wonderful organisations. It is nice to be able to help those who help others, and we had a lot of fun doing so.

“I would also like to thank B&Q in Burgess Hill for donating flowers and paint to help us make these projects a success, their generosity is appreciated.

“We are always looking for community-minded people to join us and encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch to see how they can join in; we have much more to do!”
