RIBI Young Citizen award winner, Lauren Jones was part of the junior team which beat Spain to win the prestigious wheelchair tennis World Team Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

In the earlier stages of the competition, Britain had lost to Spain but in the final, Lauren and team mate Alfie Hewett, fought back from one set and 3-0 down to beat them on a match tie break. Seventeen year old Lauren, who comes from Sussex said: “It means a lot, especially as this is my last year as a junior. It’s nice to finish on top.”

It was Lauren’s rapid progress in wheelchair tennis after she was left paralysed following an accident in 2009, which got her nominated for an RIBI Young Citizen award by the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne. Lauren received her award live on the BBC at RIBI’s Annual Conference in April this year. Her next goal is to bring back medals from the Rio Paralympics in 2016.
