Barnard Castle Rotary club’s Swimathon has made a real splash. Groups raised money for their own projects and to help boost the Rotary club’s charity funds.
Local MP Helen Goodman officially opened the event and welcomed teams who turned up throughout the day. There was no shortage of enthusiasm with the pool soon packed with Beavers from Staindrop and Barnard Castle, the First Barnard Castle Rainbows and a large team from ‘TODYS’, who thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the experience.
A group from Barnard Castle Methodist Church called themselves ‘Raise the Roof’ and are planning to do just that, replace the church roof. There were also teams from Swallow Divers, the Scouts ‘Wednesday Group’, the Yeadon family and Staindrop Primary School.
The totals raised by each team are yet to be finalised but Rotary organiser, Ian Hodgson, estimates that about £1,000 will eventually be split between the various charities that the groups nominated.
