Once V Festival comes to an end and festivalgoers head home to a warm bed and shower, there is a huge clean up to be done at Weston Park. That is where hundreds of Rotarians step in to help put the abandoned tents and sleeping bags to good use.

Working with the House of Bread, a charity helping homeless and vulnerable people in Stafford, they packed up the 20,000 tents left behind, which are then taken back to the charity store in Stafford.

One evening each week the charity holds a drop in session where homeless and vulnerable people are offered a cooked meal. During the sitting the tents and other equipment will be distributed to those who have no accommodation for the night.

The idea came about in 2005 when a member of the Brewood Rotary Club’s daughter identified that many tents and equipment left behind were disposed of at the end of the festival. That is when the Rotary Club stepped in and in 2006 a small team collected items to send to the International Aid Trust.

BBC Midlands Today was there to capture the team in action, visit its Facebook page to learn more.
