The Rotary Club of Vale of Belvoir is helping reduce the risk of young people becoming involved in crime by sponsoring two members of an inner city boxing club to go on outdoor pursuits courses.

Rotarians approached the Nottingham based KK Boxing Club after hearing a talk by its Co-founder, Marcellus Baz, in which he said that boxing is helping break down barriers between rival gangs in the city. Marcellus co-founded the club after his own boxing career was halted when he was attacked with a cleaver. He says boxing saved him from ‘jail or worse’ and he wants to offer young people the same help.

Rotarians Allen Richmond and Duncan Garment, met the boxers, Corbin Brooks-Manning and Tishawn White, last week when they delivered a cheque to the club. Marcellus Baz said: "Donations like this show the youngsters that people are there for them and support them. I was surprised when the Rotarians approached us – as I thought that they only supported projects in their immediate area – so I am really pleased that they want to help inner-city kids too."

The boxing club aims to keep young people out of trouble by getting them involved in boxing and keeping fit. The boxers will be going on the trip to Derbyshire in October.
