Students from Longhill and Varndean schools were presented with Brighton & Hove Young Citizen certificates by Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, at a ceremony attended by families, friends and teachers at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel.
[IMG: 2108 border=”0″ alt=”Brighton & Hove” align=”left” width=”180″ height=”135″]The awards have been inaugurated by the Rotary Club of Brighton as part of its year long programme celebrating the club’s centenary. The students received awards at bronze, silver and gold level, based on completing eight, 20 or 50 hours of community work in their own or other local schools, or within the wider local community.The majority of the awards were made for sports leadership projects in local junior schools, whilst others were for projects with guides, brownies or working with local charity shops.
The Lord Lieutenant and Club President, Peter Jukes congratulated the winners for the commitment they had shown to helping others in the community and thanked the schools for their support and encouragement.
