Local charities are set to benefit to the tune of £12,000 after a record number of classic cars, bikes and enthusiasts turned up at the Ashover Charity Classic Car and Bike Show, near Chesterfield. The good weather for this year’s event on Sunday 28 July, ensured that over 3,000 enthusiasts and spectators attended.

The show was organised for the third year running by  Rotary clubs from Chesterfield, Chesterfield Scarsdale, Clay Cross and Matlock. Charities benefitting include the Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, Weston Park Cancer Charity, Hope Springs Recovery Centre, McMillan Cancer Support, Samaritans and First Taste, a charity which promotes arts and educational activities for older people in care homes.

The classic car winner was Ivan Spurrier-Smith from Wirksworth with a 1931 T2 Tourer Lagonda. Classic bike winner was Billy Bartholomew from Sheffield with a 1971 BSA Rocket 3. The winners plaques were presented by Mike Cudzich-Madry, President of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield.

Entertainment included performances by Chesterfield vocalist Diana Edwards and the renowned UK violinist Kate Chruscicka. There were also side shows, arts and crafts and a licensed bar.

Rotarian Stuart Bradley, of the organising committee said: “Once again I want to thank everyone for their wonderful support and look forward to seeing you all next year on Sunday 27 July 2014.”
