The Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Randall Brew was inducted into the Rotary Club of Birmingham on June 14th by President John Ankcom. The induction took place at the Rotary International Convention in Los Angeles where he was heading a delegation to promote the 2009 Rotary International Convention which will be held in Birmingham next June.
The Rotary Club of Birmingham will be the official host of theRotary International Convention 2009, which will take place at the NEC. The last time the event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Birmingham was in 1984 when it was also held at the NEC. The fact that Rotary has chosen to return to the city highlights the impression made and fond memories that were taken away.
Councillor Brew said "It is a great honour for me to join the Rotary Club of Birmingham and I look forward to working withall the members especially during the next year to help make the Rotary Convention a success in Birmingham."
Rotary International is a worldwide organisation of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. It has more than 1.2million members, inover 33,000 clubs in 200 countries and territiories. The four-day convention in 2009 will attract visitors from all around the world including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, India and Japan.
