The Rotary Club of Bexhill has donated £2,000 to Senlac District Scouts towards the development of a designated campsite to provide facilities for young people to develop life skills in the future.

Kiteye Woods is a nine acre area of woodland which was donated to the scouts in 1974 and is used every week of the year by scouts, other youth organisations and schools. It currently accommodates 700 scouts from eight scout groups.

The donation will go towards the development of a single storey building designed by the scouts themselves. Planning consent has already been granted and tenders have gone to local building companies for the building which will cost an estimated £130,000.

Bexhill Rotarian, Colin Stutely said: “Scouting provides local children with skills which can lead to a better job and life prospects. Our local scouts have already raised a large chunk of money themselves, but they need more to cover the cost of the building.

"Having previously supported the building of a toilet block at the site in 2007, we are keen to continue helping out, so that in years to come, future generations of local youngsters will have the opportunity to develop valuable life skills.”
