The Rotary Club of Wolstanton has opened a new shop in Newcastle-Under-Lyme to raise money for local charities. The shop, which is on the main High Street, opened its doors on Friday November 15 and will be manned from 10am to 4pm every day, except Sundays.

The shop is the brainchild of Rotarian Brian Bentley, who believes that there is a desire among local people to support charities which are active in the local community. All monies raised at the shop will be used to help good causes in North Staffordshire.

This year, the Rotary Club of Wolstanton has already supported Arch North Staffordshire, Fresh Hair and Beauty Salon at the North Staffordshire University Hospital, The Douglas Macmillan Home, North Staffordshire Parkinson’s Society, North Staffordshire Samaritans and Midlands Air Ambulance.

Shop Manager, Rotarian Brian Bentley said: "In previous years, the club has raised funds during the Christmas period via street collections, however we then considered it was time to introduce something new by establishing Staffordshire’s first Rotary charity shop."

Members of the club, together with their family and friends, will operate the shop for two months over the Christmas and New Year period. They will be pleased to welcome shoppers, and be grateful to anyone who wishes to donate goods to sell.
