Thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Brentwood a Becket, the Saint Francis Hospice in Havering-atte-Bower has new patient lifting facilities and a sponsored car parking space.

Club Secretary, Neville Brown and Anne Bender, a former nurse at the hospice, were asked to get in touch to see what help was most needed. The answer was a new patient hoist and parking facilities.

Club President, Rita Anderson said: “We raise a lot of funds from our annual half marathon in Brentwood. It takes a huge amount of organising, but we raise about £70,000 which is used to fund important things for the local community like this patient hoist. Saint Francis Hospice is very high on the list of organisations that we want to support. I speak from personal experience as the hospice provided a haven of comfort after my husband became ill in 2006. The care he received from the staff of Saint Francis Hospice was wonderful.”

Anne Bender said: “We are very happy to provide funds for this magnificent patient hoist and to sponsor a car parking space to make it easier for patients visiting the hospice for day therapy or specialist treatment sessions. The new hoist is electronically controlled so it’s very easy to use and safer for patients who can’t get out of bed unaided.”
