Rotary members across Great Britain and Ireland are pushing forward with fundraising for the Haiti relief effort and have now raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for immediate emergency requirements.

Rotary clubs are still out in force and have been stunned by the generosity of the public. There have been exceptional donations which have deeply touched the Rotary clubs involved:

  • The Rotary Club of Thatcham and District were delighted to receive a donation of £250 from a couple who were inspired by the work of ShelterBox.
  • An anonymous donor has contributed £20,000 to the Rotary Club of Burslem to provide 41 ShelterBoxes.
  • Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Andover have raised £5,000 through collections, which takes the club to the 100 ShelterBox milestone since that club started raising for the charity.
  • Rotary clubs across West Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are on track to raise over £100,000 through street collections.
  • In Scotland, the Rotary Club of Erskine has succeeded in securing a collection spot in Glasgow Airport. This is a great boost as the team will be situated at the International Departures entrance and it is a first for the airport to have a Rotary collection.
  • Nearly 50 Water Survival Boxes, fundraised by the Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge, are in Haiti and being used for a medical camp by Pompiers sans Frontières, the French search and rescue team.

Meanwhile, the Donations Trust, which focuses on long-term rebuild projects, is reporting a staggering total of nearly £48,000 to date. Contributions to the fund are steadily coming in and will be used to reconstruct parts of Haiti and provide a bright future for the thousands whose lives have been devastated.
