Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is saddened to learn of the passing of Anna Swabey, who was a winner of the Rotary Young Citizen Award earlier this year.
Anna, pictured above with fellow fundraisers, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015, but was determined to support others with the condition by raising awareness, and more than £50,000 to enable more research into the cause of brain cancers.
Anna’s fiancé Andy posted the following statement on Anna’s Inside My Head Facebook page: “Anna passed away peacefully in the early hours of this morning. I cannot put into words the heartbreak we all feel, but amongst our sadness, we are so proud of her courage, her spirit and the determination she showed throughout her illness. If ever there was a person to show us how to live, it’s Anna Louise Swabey, our beautiful, brave girl.”
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland President Eve Conway commented: “Anna was an inspirational young woman who despite all the odds against her was determined not to let that stop her from going out of her way to help others and raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research. We are so saddened to lose such a precious person who truly made a difference in her short life. We send our condolences to her family and her fiancé.”
Anna was nominated for the Rotary Young Citizen Award by the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe for her dedication to helping others and making a difference in the world.
