Interactors aged 12-18 from all over Great Britain and Ireland will converge at the Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre in Thirsk on Friday 26th July for the 2013 RIBI Interact Rally. The youngsters will participate in activities, exchange project ideas and learn about Rotary projects and Rotaract. It is a challenging weekend and a chance to meet peers from all over the country and undertake activities some may not have undertaken before.
Activities include canoeing, raft building, high ropes, zip wire, archery, orienteering, ice breakers, disco and BBQs. These involve working together in teams, encouraging one another, going beyond their usual comfort zones and sharing experiences.
Each Interact club will give a presentation on the projects they have undertaken. A panel of judges will award trophies for the best community and international project with the best overall project receiving £50 from RIBI.
Rotarian Gwenda Griffiths, who organises the rally said: “For some of the young people, it may be the first time they have left their home town or city. To interact with strangers can be hard enough for adults, but Interactors attending the rally prove each year that they become better at communicating and develop the social skills to deal with the unexpected. They hear about projects undertaken by other Interact clubs and take the ideas back to their own clubs. Friendships are formed that last for years and it is a great opportunity for Interactors to meet other like minded people.”
