A scorchingly hot Horsham Park in West Sussex was invaded by thousands of kids taking part in this year’s Kidz Stuff Festival with 251 of them staying to the end to get smothered with sticky sauce as they took part in the attempt to break the world record for the largest custard pie fight.

The festival, organised and run by the Rotary Club of Horsham together with Event Management Company Terbell and Horsham District Council, started off quietly on Friday with a day for special needs children together with their families and friends

A delighted parent said: “I have a four year old autistic son and going to family events is impossible because of the crowds and noise. Today was the best day ever for him and his older brother.

“They had a go on everything without queuing and loved every minute! It was the most enjoyable and relaxing day and we were able to stay all day without any problems.”

Following this, the main festival included something for all kids…. from inflatables, donkey rides, trampolines, climbing wall, quad bikes, laser quest, magician, Punch & Judy, giant soft play for the toddlers, comedy car show, and even a circus …to educational activities including science shows, a kitchen academy, birds of prey, poetry readings, cartoon creation lessons, safety at sea classes from the RLNI, sporting classes in tennis and soccer and much more.

Arthur Weasley, actor Mark Williams from the Harry Potter movies, joined the festival on Saturday to add a touch of magic.

The weekend finished with the spectacular attempt on the World Record for the largest Custard Pie fight with 251 children from aged three to 13 throwing nearly 1,300 flan cases filled with gooey custard, whilst parents, grandparents and TV cameras surrounding the arena cheered the children on to achieve over a minute of real mayhem.

The club is currently awaiting confirmation from the Guiness Book of Records to see if they were successful.
