District Governors Eve Conway and Mike Thorn are just two of many Rotarians from around the country who have successfully completed the London Marathon to raise money for charity.

Eve, who is governor of District 1130 which covers the London area, completed the course in seven hours forty one minutes, despite having had very little time for training. Mike, who is governor of District 1140, covering Hampshire, Middlesex, Surrey and Croydon, completed the course in six hours twenty seven minutes.

The money raised will be donated to the Rotary Wheel Appeal which is a paralympic legacy project between RIBI and the charity WheelPower. The objective of WheelPower is to provide young or newly disabled people with the opportunity to further a sporting goal by providing sports wheelchairs to allow them to compete and possibly become future Paralympians.

Eve Conway said: “We ran wearing Rotary wheels which were four feet and two feet in diameter respectively, to raise our profile among the thousands of people lining the route. We certainly got a lot of attention as the wheels were quite large, although they were not too uncomfortable. We have so far raised around £4,000 but funds are still coming in from online and offline sources so we are still counting.”
