Many Rotary clubs enjoy a quick bit to eat when they meet up but one club in England decided to make a change and make a difference. Colchester Rotarians gave up their normal lunch and raised an amazing £600 to help The Rotary Foundation.

The Rotary Club of Colchester Forum meeting venue donated a frugal lunch of soup and rolls and the members donated a normal full meal price to TRF.

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s own charity. It is supported by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and generous donations from the general public  Its mission is to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty. It has become one of the foremost non-governmental foundations with the educational support programme being the largest private scholarship endowment in the world.

It is also committed to ending polio worldwide. Since 1985, Rotary has been a leader in the effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Globally this has progressed from having 125 polio endemic countries to now having just three; Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria – in no small part due to The Rotary Foundation.

Rotary Forum President, Andrew Crayston said: “Ending Polio and all the other Rotary programmes worldwide are so deserving of our support."
