We reported last month that The Rotary Club of Oxford Spires was searching for a new venue for the famous World Pooh Sticks Championships. We can now announce that a new home has been found, with this year’s event taking place at Langel Common in Witney.
The Championships, which is being organised by the Rotary Club, will take place on Sunday 7th June at the common. The venue is a growing visitor attraction and is recently famous for being one of Downton Abbey’s filming locations.
The Rotary Club will be working in partnership with Cogges Manor Farm in Witney, which is planning to organise a ‘Stick Day’ to join in with the fun alongside the Championships.
The annual event had previously been held at Day’s Lock in Little Wittenham for 31 years, but as it had become so popular in recent years it had outgrown the space available, so the club then announced in January that it was actively looking for an alternative venue in or around Oxford. The event helps the Rotary Club to raise thousands of pounds for many local, national and international charities, and it also gives people the chance to become a World Champion at this unique event.
Karen Eveleigh, from The Rotary Club of Oxford Spires, said: “We were delighted to receive such great publicity and support in our search for a new venue, and are thrilled to have found this location in Witney.”
