Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is welcoming Eve Conway as President for 2016/17.

Eve has been a member of Rotary for 16 years having joined the Rotary Club of Redbridge in 2000. During her time as a Rotarian, Eve has organised numerous projects including ones associated with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games when she was District Governor for Rotary in London; the Rotary Young Citizen Awards which recognise the outstanding work of young people; and Rotary’s new Purple4Polio campaign, which involves an exciting partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society to plant 5 million purple crocus corms across Great Britain and Ireland.

Having studied as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, home of Rotary International, Eve graduated with a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism. She has spent over 20 years working for BBC News working across the organisation in both television and radio in a range of positions including News Producer and Political Reporter.

In addition to her Presidential year coinciding with the 70th anniversary the start of the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship programme, it is also the Centennial Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s own and only charity. The Foundation has been a powerful force for doing good across the world, most notably through Rotary’s fight to eradicate polio, which as Eve explains is now closer than ever.

“The world stands on the brink of an historic milestone and we must focus our efforts on the final push to eradicate this disease to ensure a polio-free world. We are now so close to finishing the job with only two remaining countries where polio is still endemic, Pakistan and Afghanistan. That is why the Purple4Polio campaign is so important to raise awareness and funds. Let’s join together to make history and End Polio Now and forever.”
