15 clubs across Nottingham and Derbyshire have responded to a rallying call to help support this year’s Poppy Appeal by the Royal British Legion.
The request for help came from the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, who had been very impressed by a Rotary showcase event earlier in the year.
The collections are being organised by Val Leivers, Immediate Past District Governor of D1220, and are taking place between now and Remembrance day, 11th November. Nearly 170 Rotarians will be helping with the collections, which are essential to support veterans.
District Governor Gordon McGlone, Rotary Club of Wirksworth, says: "The reponse to this appeal by Rotary clubs is just breathtaking but at the same time not surprising as Rotary in this area is very active.
"Clubs in District 1220 have always been very much hands-on when it comes to helping our community and helping to collect for the Poppy Appeal is another great way to help a very worthy cause and shows what Rotary can do. Clubs also support Help for Heroes.
"I will also be laying a wreath on behalf of Rotary clubs on the 11th of November in memory of those who have fallen during conflict."
