Rotary District 1180 hosted the first visit of RIBI President, Nan McCreadie’s presidency when she visited the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. The Rotary Club of Llangollen provided a courtesy bus to transport disabled people around the field whilst the Rotary District held a giant jigsaw competition for children at the Rotary stand.
District Governor Philip Horwood said: “We are delighted to be the first Rotary District to welcome Nan McCreadie in her year as president. This is a fantastic festival and a great place to start her year in office."
Rotarians were also unexpectedly on hand to help a polio sufferer on site. Mike Clutton explains: “As Rotarians were setting up their stall, they were asked by a member of the Eisteddfod staff it they knew where they could get hold of a wheelchair. Someone had mobility problems and needed some means of getting around. One of the team on the Rotary stand, Joan Murray Jones, had a mobility scooter in her car and said she was only too happy to loan it out for the week.

Although we weren’t able to prevent the man from getting polio, we did, at least ease the burden of its effects and he was able to get around the site easily for the rest of the event.”Clubs in District 1180 support a wide variety of causes including Birkenhead Disabled Persons Club, Support the Hospices, students travelling overseas, fitting key safes for pensioners, cancer awareness for men and environmental spring cleans in streams and sea shores. There is also a strong focus on Interact, Rotaract and the RIBI Young Chef, RIBI Young Musician and RIBI Young Writer competitions.
