The president of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) is praising the commitment and work of Rotarians in Rotary District 1070.
President Ray Burman and his wife, Victoria, are making their way around the Rotary districts to see and take part in the many life-changing projects supported by local Rotary clubs.
This week, President Burman, as he prefers to be known, met with Trade Aid, Kesteven Rideability, Rutland Sailability, Mencap Fairview Farm, Rotary Swimarathon and many other charities and causes: “I am always amazed by what our Rotarians are doing to support projects in their local community. Here in Grantham, I have seen Rotary at its best.”
“The Trade Aid project, organised by the Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven, is amazing, providing tools and equipment in a box which change the lives of the people in the developing world, giving them self-respect and independence, and allowing them to work and provide for their family and local community.
“The Rotary Swimarathon, organised by the Rotary Club of Grantham, has raised hundreds of thousands pounds to support their local community and local charities. I am so impressed that they are going for swimming world record with their awesome project of a global swimarathon on 23rd February 2012.”
President Burman was interviewed by BBC Radio Northampton’s when he visited the Change of Scene project which is supprted by the five Rotary clubs in the area. You can hear the interview on BBC iPlayer here. Go to approximately 55 minutes into the show. (Please note, this interview will expire on the 22nd of August.)
Whilst in the area, President Burman also unveilled a Blue Plaque at Grantham’s George Centre to commemorate Thomas Paine, one of the founding fathers of the United states. President Burman was joined by Karen E Huntress from the US Embassy.
