Jenna Speirs, Rothesay, has been given a Teen Hero Award by BBC Radio 1.
Jenna, who was awarded a Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI) Young Citizen Award in 2008, was recognised for incredible fundraising efforts to help families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.
When her twin brother, Calum, tragically died from a brain tumour aged just 12 years old, Jenna was determined to carry out his last wish, to build a holiday home on Rothesay for families going through similar situations.
The community rallied round and land was donated by the Marquis of Rothesay. Now, Calum’s Cabin stands proudly overlooking the stunning landscape on the Isle of Bute and is minutes away from the beach. Jenna’s selfless actions were recognised by the Rotary Club of Rothesay which nominated her for the RIBI Young Citizen award.
Not only has Jenna granted her brother’s wish, she has helped families to relax away from the stresses of hospital treatment and enjoy quality time together for free.
To enable families to continue enjoying this valuable time together, Jenna continues to fundraise for Calums Cabin and welcomes all offers of support.
