A simple idea by two Rotarians to cut down on waste and help young babies overseas is delivering a bundle of joy.

Sandra Davey, Rotary Club of Monmouth, and PDG Elizabeth Tatman, D1280, are collecting and transporting outgrown clothing to Romanian orphanages and maternity units where they are gratefully received.

Young children outgrow their clothes very quickly. Here in Great Britain and Ireland, thanks to the generosity of friends and family, some mothers often have far more clothes for their baby than they can wear out.

Disposal apart from simple recycling is not easy as other mothers usually want only new clothes for their baby. Many charity shops are reluctant to accept baby clothes for sale as their experience is that these items, although in good condition, do not sell.

Sandra says: "The idea is really simple and has made a difference to many little ones already. Rotarians collect good quality baby clothes which are suitable for up to two years of age, from friends, family, other contacts. The clothes are collected and then sent to Romania to orphanages and maternity units in Romania where there is a great need."
