We’re delighted to report that the Queen has honoured thirteen Rotarians in the New Year’s Honours list, which was announced earlier this week.
Three of those recognised in the list were commended for their Rotary service and their award came linked to the work they have carried out on our behalf.
Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) honours were given to Keith Granville Buckler for his services to New English Orchestra and to charity through Rotary in Grange over Sands, and Roger Percival for his charitable services through Harrogate Rotary Club.
A Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) honour was awarded to Paul Johnson, Chairman of Rotary Clubs of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Young Carers’ Network, for his services to Young Carers.
Further Rotarians who received the prestigious accolade include:
- David Curtis, past governor of the South Wales district and past president of Pontllanfraith Rotary Club, BME for voluntary and charitable services to the community in Caerphilly.
- Robert Clegg, past president Rochdale East Rotary Club, OBE for services to the community in Rochdale.
- Edward John Barker, past President of Colwyn Bay Rotary Club, BEM for voluntary service to the community in Colwyn Bay, Conwy.
- James William Waldron, past president of Barnstaple Rotary Club, BEM for services to the community in Bishops Tawton and Barnstaple, North Devon.
- Alexander James Pirie, past governor of the South of Scotland district and now honorary member, and past president, of Livingston Rotary Club, MBE for voluntary service in Livingston, West Lothian.
- Charles Fargher, member of the Douglas Isle of Man Rotary Club, MBE for services to Manx charities and community.
- Sally Smith, past President of Northampton West Rotary Club, MBE for political service.
- James Maddan, Club President of Putney Rotary Club, OBE services to Policing and Community Safety in London.
- Chris Fonteyn, past President of Stourbridge Rotary Club, MBE for services to the community in Stourbridge.
- George Donaldson, past President of St. Andrews Kilrymont Rotary Club, MBE for voluntary service in St Andrews.
This year 1,164 people have been recommended to The Queen for an award, and all Rotarians who have been recognised with a New Year’s Honour will be invited to accept their accolade at a ceremonies held at Buckingham Palace.
