The London Olympics and Paralympics may be over but the legacy of the Games certainly lives on through volunteers. Thousands stepped forward to help make the London 2012 Games a success and are now looking for ways to volunteer further. Rotary could be the answer.

Rotarians were amongst the willing helping hands, Olympic Torchbearers, helping visitors to London and backing athletes. They also volunteer throughout the year in communities at home and overseas.

“Rotary offers a world of opportunities for everyone,” says RIBI President John Minhinick. “Whether you want to help a local school, tidy a green area or take on larger projects like building new homes for impoverished villages overseas and provide much-needed baby clothes to orphanages in Europe, Rotary is for you.”

“Rotary makes volunteering so easy. All you need is a bit of time, buckets of energy and a desire to make a difference. Many people join because they want to give something back. What amazes them is what they get back in return. They discover new skills, new-found confidence and a group of new friends who all have the same idea, to improve the lives of others.

“You don’t need to be retired or a high flying career person, although there are plenty in Rotary,  you just need to be willing to give things a try. We look for all kinds of people from all kinds of areas. It will be the best investment of time you will ever make as not only are you turning lives around, you are turning your own life around too.

“There are hundreds of clubs throughout the country so it is really easy to find one and, in doing so, find a new opportunity.”

Rotary reaches out to communities in many ways including opportunities for youngsters, including competitions and youth exchanges, working with local communities to meet their needs and are even leading the way with the eradication of polio from the world.

For more information about Rotary and how to get involved, contact your local Rotary club or register your interest.
